Welcome to PHIDU
The Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU) was established by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in 1999 to assist in the development of public health data, data systems and indicators. PHIDU is located at The University of Adelaide and is a collaborating unit of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in relation to its work for the Department of Health and Ageing.
We are committed to the development of an integrated health information system in Australia that can provide information on a broad range of health determinants across the life course. A major emphasis is on the development and publication of small area statistics for monitoring inequality in health and wellbeing.
